our mission

The mission of CASA of West Texas is to recruit, train and support committed volunteers appointed by judges to advocate in court and in the community for the best interest of children in the child welfare system.

CASA of West Texas

CASA of West Texas supports volunteers who advocate for child abuse victims in Midland, Howard, Dawson, Gaines, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock Counties.  When severe child abuse and neglect occurs in a home, foster care may be the only option to keep a child safe.  When a child enters foster care, a judge will appoint a CASA Volunteer to advocate for that child's best interest in court and in the community.  Being in foster care is very difficult for a child.  Every child in foster care needs someone they can count on to be there for them...someone to speak up for them--an advocate.  Could you be that person? Learn more and get involved.

Hobbies to Reduce Stress

The rule of thumb for living a balanced life is to have three hobbies: one to make you money, one to keep you healthy and one to expand your creativity. We’re focusing on the one hobby to keep you healthy, because when you’re healthy, you inspire others. It’s like a chain reaction of positivity. Choose a hobby that keeps your mind and body in a harmony. Here are three suggestions of hobbies to reduce stress, keep you active and positive:

Gardening—Did you know that just one hour of gardening burns over 200 calories? Plus it gets you outdoors which naturally reduces stress levels. Studies show that spending 30 minutes outdoors decreases stress by 50 percent. So get out there and start gardening! A smile on your face will come soon after.

Yoga—Become more empathic and lower stressors in life with one simple exercise: yoga. Not only does it get you in tip-top shape, it relaxes your mind and helps you become more patient in life. It is a practice, so make it a habit to do yoga otherwise you won’t receive the benefits.

Swimming—Leave your worries at the door while you complete a few laps around the pool. Swimming gives us an escape from the loud world we live in. Have a moment to yourself in calming water exercising all the stress out of your body.
